A Guide To Cincinnati Ohio For Musicians






Cincinnati Ohio is located north of the Ohio River at the Ohio/Kentucky border and was founded in 1788. That makes the city about 223 years old and choc full of culture and musical history. It has produced such venerable musicians as Peter Frampton, Afghan Whigs, Over the Rhine, and Pure Prairie League.

In it’s 200 year history, Cincinnati has been known as or informally referred to as the "Queen" city, The Queen of the West, The Blue Chip City, The City of Seven Hills, Porkopolis (due to the time when Cincinnati was the world's major pork processing center, and “Cincy” or "Cinci.”

This city has a Major League baseball team, The Cincinnati Reds, as well as an NFL football team, The Cincinnati Bengals. Game Day Communications released a list of “Ultimate Sports Cities” in the U.S. for 2011. Cincinnati came in 19th on that list, just ahead of Cleveland.

Approximately 296,943 people reside within the city limits. On a crime index scale where 100 is the safest city in the country and 1 is the most dangerous, Cincinnati ranks a 4, meaning it is safer than only 4% of all other cities in the U.S.

The University of Cincinnati and Xavier University are both major colleges that reside in the city and with them come lots of young and open minded music lovers. This is a great music scene to get involved with and there are a lot of music resources to take advantage of locally.
