Columbus Ohio, A Musicians Reference

Columbus Ohio is the capital and third largest city in the state of Ohio. It is fairly centrally located. In 2009, Business Week named the city as the best place in the country to raise a family. In 2008, Forbes Magazine ranked the city as the number one up-and-coming tech city in the nation, and the city was ranked a top ten city by Relocate America in 2010.

The population of Columbus, Ohio in 2011 is approximately 769,802 people. That’s approaching the high end of a mid-sized city. Some might even argue that is on the low end of a large city. For musicians, the thing to keep in mind here is that Columbus Ohio is a big city with a lot of opportunities to get your music heard.

On the U.S. Crime Index Scale our capital city ranks a lowly 2 out of 100. That means that Columbus is only safer than 2% of all other cities in the U.S. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 11. Within Ohio, more than 90% of the communities have a lower crime rate than Columbus. Don’t let it scare you off. If you’re a musician and you want to make a name for yourself or your band, you need to play Columbus. All I’m saying is watch your gear and stay aware of your surroundings. Your in the big city now.

Let me start off with events. Columbus has a lot of festivals in the city or in the surrounding area. Check this guide out…
